Our directors and executives are highly qualified and play vital roles in ensuring the success of our business.
Our committee members are selected to ensure a diverse representation of age, gender and ethnic diversity. In addition, they possess a range of expertise and knowledge that is sufficient to provide guidance and oversight.
- Executive Committee, assuming direct responsibility for operational management.
- Investment Committee, responsible for making decisions regarding the acquisition of debt portfolios.
- Remuneration Committee, making decisions on the remuneration of the executives and employees.
Carl holds a B.Acc and B. Acc (Hons) degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is a Chartered Accountant (SA) as well as a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA). After completing his articles at Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), he remained with this company for a year as audit manager. In 1999 Carl decided to relocate to the UK where he joined the Insurance and Investment Management Audit division of PwC in London as an audit manager, working on key clients such as CGU, now Aviva. After two years Carl decided to move out of audit and was invited to join the newly formed specialist financial services team within Transaction Services of PwC London. Carl conducted due diligence services (buy side and sell side) and other related mergers and acquisition consulting in UK, Europe and US for the next three years. In 2003 Carl decided to return to South Africa and after travelling around the world for 6 months arrived back in November 2003. Carl joined MBD as Group Financial Manager and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2005. In 2008 Carl was promoted to Commercial Executive and was tasked with looking at various aspects of the business both strategically and operationally in order to ensure future growth and profitability. In 2010 Carl assumed the role of Executive Head of the Legal Collections division. Carl attended the Executive leadership program at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA in 2011. In 2014, Carl was appointed as head of MBD Revenue.
B Paed (Arts) University of Durban Westville Maheshini has had numerous years of experience working in the credit, data and collections industry through employment by TransUnion ITC and MBD. Maheshini spent 11 years at TransUnion ITC, a leading international credit bureau. Roles fulfilled whereas Commercial Business Reporter for the first two years. She then was involved as Training Manager for four years before taking up a role as Key Accounts Manager. In 2000 Maheshini joined MBD in a similar role and now heads up Client Relationship Management and Customer Care. Responsibilities include client management, relationship building, contract negotiations and new business development. A key aspect of this is ensuring client deliverables and service levels are met and reporting to clients. Furthermore, with her significant industry experience Maheshini is involved with input into client collection strategies and managing projects specific to clients. Maheshini attended the Executive leadership program at Stellenbosch in 2012.
He started his career with the JD Group in 1995 and spent 10 years in Internal Auditing; during this period he attended The University of Pretoria and obtained various auditing accreditations. In 2006 he joined the Russells Furniture Brand as Divisional Sales Manager. It is his career in the furniture retail industry that saw him progress from Sales Manager to General Manager, this progression brought about a strong understanding of the credit and retail management industry. During this period he attended Wits University and attended various management and leadership programs. He joined Norman Bissett and Associates in 2009 as Chief Operating Officer as a member of the Executive Committee Team, where he was responsible for the full interaction with all clients at a performance and strategic planning level. It was also during this period that Nimble Collections Group acquired Norman Bissett and Associates from Wesbank. In 2010 he joined MBD as General Manager Commercial Collections, where he was instrumental in starting the commercial collections call centre and growing this division to a significant revenue generator. MBD Commercial Collections have become the leaders in commercial collections in the commercial collections industry in South Africa. He was also the initiator of the first commercial collections conference held in 2012. Mark is also a member of the IACC (International Association of Commercial Collectors) which is an international trade association. In 2012 Mark completed his GEDP (Global Executive Development Program) at Gordon Institute for Business Science. Mark has extensive experience in Contingency and Commercial collections that he has acquired over the past 19 years.
Guy holds a Law Degree from the University of Port Elizabeth (Baccalareus Procurationis – B.PROC). He started his career with the MBD Credit Solutions Group as a Senior Manager and then joined Munnik Basson Dagama Inc. as a Senior Attorney before rising to Executive Director of the law firm and ultimately his current position as Managing Director. Guy has over sixteen years of proven experience in the legal profession working in various legal fields and acquiring expertise in a wide range of legal fields and subjects. Always striving to improve his knowledge base, Guy has taught at the L.E.A.D Law school and regularly attends skills and development programmes and recently completed the Executive Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch (2013).
Stags started his IT career in 1999 as a web and application developer. He started his career at MBD in 2003 and through the years at the organisation, he has held various leadership roles within the IT Division. He has made a valuable contribution to the development, design, management and alignment of goals to the overall growth of the company. With his immense knowledge, experience and multiple Microsoft Certified Accreditations he has led the IT Division in an acting IT Executive capacity since April 2013. Stags officially took on the role of CIO in February 2014.
Ruben holds a Bsc Honours in Computer Science from Wits, as well as various data strategy accreditations. He has extensive experience in debt collection projects within the telecoms industry, and has delivered solutions across all the major telecoms providers in South Africa. His understanding of technology strategies, retail experience and working for Deloitte, Accenture and Standard Bank has led to many successful ecommerce initiatives and helped drive tailored digital strategies for clients.
Gerhard joined TCR in 2015 as the Corporate Finance Principal, after which he transferred to Transaction Capital as Corporate Finance Executive. He has spent ten years in the corporate finance field and worked at Nedbank Capital Corporate Finance, Imara Corporate Finance, FNB and Investec. Gerhard holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from RAU, a BSc (Hnrs) in Advanced Mathematics of Finance from Wits, and a Diploma in Business Administration from GIBS. Gerhard is also a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and a member of GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals).
Ian has worked in the Insurance and Credit Industry since 1988 and has extensive knowledge and experience. He completed a full-time MBA at Wits Business School in 2001 and has since held several executive roles. Ian is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (FIISA), and Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (AIISA). Ian honed his skills with Transunion Credit Bureau where he served as the Executive: Product and Marketing from 2007 to 2010, and as Executive: Insurance and Partners until 2015. Prior to that he was Director of Strategic Marketing at Glenrand MIB.
Erick comes from an engineering background joining TCR from the self-owned Palma Consulting Engineers. He has been involved in the Public Sector environment for over 20 years, where his expertise includes construction, transportation and land use planning, traffic studies and the formulation of policy and legislation. His key experience in the Public Sector includes managing the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality as an Administrator from 2013 to2015, as well as Emalahleni Local Municipality in 2015.Erick has a B.Sc in Civil Engineering and a GDE in Project Management from the University of Witwatersrand. He is also a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Mkuseli Fipaza has been in the employ of TCR for 10 years. He holds a BA degree ( University of Durban Westville), Diploma in Business Development (Rand Afrikaans University), Credit Management 1 ( Institute of Credit Management) and Masters in Business Leaders (Unisa). He served as the first Chairperson of MBD Transformation Forum. He was appointed as Executive Manager of TCR in 2014. Mkuseli is passionate about leadership and continues to influence and contribute to the development of young leaders.
Ruan served articles at JD Hill & Co. After completing his articles and in 2004, he moved to Altech a division of Altron Limited as internal auditor. Within 6 months he moved to the position of Group Financial Accountant (2006 to 2008). Ruan joined MBD in 2008 as financial analyst moving into Group Financial Manager in 2013. He was appointed as Finance Executive in February 2016. Bcompt (Hons), Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, CA (SA).
Stephen has over 17 years’ experience in the banking and asset management industry. He was a Senior Manager in the Financial Services at Accenture and as a consultant worked with all the major financial services groups in South Africa, executing projects and advising C-Suite executives on strategy, operations, technology, and operating models. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UNISA, and a DipBA from FTI.
Charmaine has over 12 years’ experience within the Human Resources disciplines. She joined in 2006 and was instrumental in establishing the recruitment and business partner divisions. She has held various leadership roles in the Human Resources division and was pivotal in establishing the Employee Engagement team, and designing and implementing the company’s first Talent Management Program. Charmaine holds various HR-related skills and accreditation’s – most notably is a qualified Professional Business Coach through GIBS, also completing their Leadership Development Program.
